As you walk through the wooden gate into Pythouse Kitchen Garden you know in a moment you are somewhere very special. Rows of bean poles tied with string, raised beds bushy with fresh herbs, walkways lined with apple blossom, rows of seasonal greens or new shoots, ripening fruits, flowers and buzzing bees.

It’s a traditional Victorian walled garden which has been lovingly brought back from decrepitude over the last decade or so and the cafe has just reopened after a ‘little bit of work’.

The beautifully renovated Potting Shed houses a little deli where you can buy produce from the garden and a cafe where you can eat it!  The menu is fresh and inspiring, so is the wine list.

Depending on the weather you might choose to sit inside in the effortlessly stylish interior or take a table on the sunny terrace by the herb garden or a picnic bench under the apple trees. Much of the rustic antique and vintage furniture that surrounds you is for sale so you might add the odd gilded mirror or old watering can to your bill!

I love being there on misty mornings or for afternoon tea in the sunshine and, most of all, long summer evenings with a glass of something bubbly as the sun goes down.
